Some years ago, during a short walk from a meeting room to my office, a colleague suggested building a business capability map to measure the weakness of a tool (ERP) in supporting the business capabilities' needs. I did not know what he was talking about, but he did point me to speak to another colleague, Marco Muishout , who assisted him in creating his capability map for his division. As soon I saw the graphical map clearly, I saw the potential and how much I could benefit from it. So, lately, after joining a new organization, my first step was to map the capabilities of this new organization from scratch. In the process, I realized that most (not to say all) of them have ever come to see a capability map, giving me the idea to blog and reach out to those who may be interested.
